This course educates employees in the proper response to any workplace emergency. Occupational First Aid Courses are heavily focused on providing the necessary skills to enable the employees deal with injuries that would be likely to occur at their workplace. It meets and exceeds current Health and Safety Standards and requirements for employee training. Participants learn how to recognise medical emergencies, casualty assessment and perform life saving skills.

Duration: 

3 days are compulsory under Health and Safety Authorities guidelines. Please note the 1 and 2 day courses are not recognised by the H.S.A.

Course Content:

The content of the course will assist with developing a preventative approach to accidents/injuries at work. The course is structured to give the participant a good general knowledge of First Aid principles with special emphasis on potential hazards particular to the workplace and in accordance with the Health & Safety Authorities Guidelines on First Aid at Places of Work.

  • First aid in the workplace
  • Patient Assessment
  • Respiratory Emergencies
  • Cardiac first response (includes defibrillation)
  • Wounds & Bleeding
  • Altered Levels of Consciousness
  • Musculoskeletal Injuries
  • Burns, Scalds Poisons and Electric Shock

Certification:

Participants are examined by an external examiner in accordance with the Health and Safety Authority’s guidelines on First Aid at Places of Work. On successful completion of the course a QQI level 5 Occupational First Aid Certificate is awarded to the participant. This certificate is valid for two years. A one day refresher will then update the participant for a further two years.

Course Validation:

The course is structured in accordance with the Health and Safety Authority’s guidelines on first aid at places of work. All instructors and examiners hold current certification from the Occupational First Aid Assessment Agent (OFAAA) and are listed on their register maintained there on behalf of the Health and Safety Authority. Courses are registered with QQI through the Occupational First Aid Assessment Agent OFAAA.

PPS number must be presented to instructor on the day of the course.
