Patient Manual Handling

This Patient Manual Handling Course meets the training obligations under the 2007 Manual Handling Regulations and the Safety Health & Welfare at Work Act, 2005.
It's mandatory for all Nursing and Healthcare Personnel to have a current Patient Manual Handling Certificate. Our Registered Patient Manual Handling Instructors have extensive experience of training within the HSE and private Nursing Homes and can travel to your desired location to deliver this course.

NB: Flat shoes and loose clothing e.g. tracksuit should be worn for the practical aspects of this course.
 

Course Content:

Participants who have completed this course will be able to:
  • Recognise a load, which is too heavy or awkward
  • Understand the limitations of the spine and muscular system
  • Lift and handle loads safely (both inanimate and animate)
 
Theory:
  • The law and its application to the manual handling environment
  • Muscular-skeletal system
  • Biomechanics and mechanism of injury
  • Flexibility
  • Ergonomics and risk assessment
  • Basic principles of lifting
 
Practical Application:
  • Inanimate Lifting
  • Patient Moving & Handling
 
Course Duration: One Day
 

Course Certification:

Written Test and Patient Manual Handling Skills assessment by Instructor.

We provide in-house training nationwide. We can provide training in the evening or at weekends along with daytime courses.
