Medication management refers to the safe, clinically effective and economic use of medicines to ensure that people using health and social care services get the maximum benefit from the medicines they need, while at the same time minimising potential harm.
Medication safety involves giving the right person the right medication in the right dose at the right time and by the correct route. In line with the relevant national standards, service providers are expected to have arrangements in place to ensure the safe and effective use of medicines, including assessing, prescribing, dispensing, administering, documenting, reconciling, reviewing and assisting people with their medications.
This course covers medication management and medication safety within the Social Care setting
Course Content
- Principles of Medication Management (definitions, core elements etc)
- Irish Legislation and Standards and your policies and procedures.
- Understanding Medicines, common benefits and dangers.
- Practical elements of checking and recording
- Group Work (NB requires access to local Documentation)
- Medication Errors - includes best practice for reducing errors.
As an in house programme this course can be amended for best fit and will be tailored to meet the needs of social care staff, in line with current HIQA Guidelines. Examples and Role-plays used will be specific to the group. Medication policies and procedures from the organisation will be covered on the course if provided to us in advance. MCQ will be completed by each participant. - MCQ's can be tailored to include specific local policy needs if required.
Certification
An NB Training Services, Safe Administration of Medication Certificate will be issued to all participants which is valid for 2 years.

We will call to your Social Care Centre or Service to deliver this bespoke Safe Administration of Medication for Social Care Workers at a time that suits you and your Social Care Workers. We can also deliver this course by ZOOM or MS Teams to meet your staffs needs.
